In the Works
By Brett King, RMCA Headmaster
It’s never boring at RMCA! There is always
something in the works. Since our inception, we have had a commitment
to continual improvement. My ongoing goal for the school has always
been to be a little bit better tomorrow than we are today. In this Perspectives
article I want to take the time to share with you just some of the projects
that are currently underway that I believe will make RMCA a better place
for students, parents, and staff in the months and years ahead.
Building Security Improvements
If you have walked around the building recently you may have noticed
some of the security measures already in place. In the next few months,
building security will be taken to a whole new level. We are currently
working with architects and engineers to make the campus open for church
visitors, while at the same time more secure for students.
Current plans call for the placement of interior security
doors at key points in certain hallways. The current soft barriers (stanchions)
will be replaced by store front doors. These doors will be centrally
controlled and opened with electronic key cards. This will create “safe
zones” in classroom areas, enabling students to move freely within
a zone without having to lock classroom doors.
Additionally, wireless network and phone upgrades on the
entire campus will give us the capability of video surveillance, as
wells as rapid communication in case of an emergency.
“Perks and Pages” Coffee Shop and
Book Store
For years, parents have asked for a place to “hang out”
after they dropped off their children. That dream will become a reality
in just a few more months. The current bookstore near the west entrance
will take on a new look and a new menu. So bring your laptop and your
friends, and prepare your taste buds for coffee and tea delights!
Student Information System
If you enrolled online for next school year, you have already experienced
it. And based on the feedback we have received so far, our families
like it! We are currently in the process of implementing a new online
student information system to manage all of our student data. This will
continue to strengthen school-to-home and home-to-school communication.
It will also bring added efficiency to administrative tasks.
Curriculum Refinements
RMCA regularly evaluates and updates curriculum materials. This school
year, RMCA’s K-8 Principal, Dr. Robinson, is leading a team of
parents and teachers that will refine our writing and composition curriculum.
One of the most important elements of a classical education is the ability
to express one’s self persuasively and eloquently.
High School Planning
In recent weeks, I have had the opportunity to listen to many of you
express your interest and excitement about the addition of a high school
program. I too, have become more passionate about the positive impact
a Christian and classical high school will have on preparing students
for the future.
With that excitement also comes many questions: Where?
When? How much? What programs? These questions are yet to be fully answered.
However, a high school planning task force is currently being formed
to address those challenging issues. If you have an interest in helping
with high school planning, feel free to give me a call in the school
office.
These are thrilling times at RMCA! I can’t
wait to see how the plans we are implementing today will bring blessing
to our students tomorrow. Thank you to all of you who make RMCA a wonderful
place to learn and serve.
