RMCA’s 5 Pillars of Character
By Brett King, Headmaster

It was just over two years ago that RMCA officially launched its school-wide character program, the 5 pillars of character. While we have always been intentional about shaping our students’ character, this coordinated effort has proven very effective in creating memorable and meaningful language that has translated into genuine and concrete behavior.

Unique to this program is its emphasis on the training of the heart. Each pillar begins with forming a proper attitude and belief, not merely an outward action. Our goal is not to just have students conform to a disconnected set of rules, but to be transformed by understanding that God empowers us and calls us to be a reflection of his image.

I invite you to take a fresh look at these pillars and reinforce these values at home as we partner together to train children to learn and to live to glory of God!

Be Ready. . .
Titus 3:1 “…be ready to do what is good…”
In attitude:
-- Choose a positive attitude
-- Look forward to learning
In actions:
-- Be in proper uniform
-- Have assignments complete
-- Keep alert posture

Be Respectful. . .
1 Peter 2:17 “Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.”

In attitude:

-- Remember that God gives parents, teachers, and leaders authority for your good.
In actions:
-- Obey right away, all the way
-- Greet others when greeted
-- Step aside to let others pass
-- Stand to give an answer

Be Considerate. . .
Matt. 7:12 “In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you…”
In attitude:
-- Know that all people are valuable to God
-- Think about how others might feel.
In actions:
-- Do not distract from others’ learning
-- Speak kind words
-- Be gentle in actions
-- Include others

Be Honorable. . .
2 Cor. 8:21 “We are careful to be honorable before the Lord, but we also want everyone else to know we are honorable.”
In attitude:
-- Remember that God knows you and loves you
-- Determine that you will do what is right, even when it is hard or no one is looking
In actions:
-- Lend a helping hand
-- Tell the truth
-- Speak pure words
-- Be honest

Be Grateful. . .
Col. 2:7 “Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all he has done.”
In attitude:
-- Remember that we have been given much that we did not earn or deserve
In actions:
-- Take care of property
-- Say “thank you” a lot
