RMCA has exceptional and highly trained faculty and staff committed to the spiritual, academic, physical, and social development of each child. They model the virtues they teach. While they are passionate and capable of guiding each child’s growth, our teachers have a comprehensive method which informs their philosophy and practice. It is through the strength of this approach that we are able to maintain consistency across the variety of personalities and backgrounds leading our classes.
As a teaching environment for educators, we believe there is none more well-suited than a school like RMCA. Teachers love their pupils and get to share with them in a growing enthusiasm for learning. As Executive Director/Principal of RMCA, Brandon Byrd has the privilege of serving our community through growing the opportunities that a meaningful atmosphere, discipline, and life have for each individual. Key aspects of his role include staff development, student discipleship, parent engagement, and campus enhancements. Brandon’s desire is to see RMCA's community continue to grow as its children and adults realize their unmeasurable potential as persons created in the image of a loving, good God.
Brandon holds a B.A. in history and English Literature from Union University and a M.Ed degree from from Covenant College. He has also participated extensively in Ambleside Schools International's training. In his role, Brandon draws on his 18 years of K-12 instructional and administrative experience, including teaching 5th grade at RMCA in 2008-09, and in a number of schools in the U.S. and East Africa.
Brandon hails from Tennessee and is married to Melissa. They are grateful for the opportunity to have all five of their children at RMCA. They are also grateful to live in a beautiful place and to do good work with God's people.
Sonja Gifford joined the RMCA staff in 2018 after serving on our Board of Directors for two years. As Director of Community Development, Sonja’s work is varied, combining elements of relationship building, stakeholder management, fundraising and volunteer coordination. Her key objective is to nurture meaningful relationships with key community groups.
Mrs. Gifford's background includes five years in higher education, recruiting at a Christian liberal arts college, six years as school counselor at comprehensive public high schools, and academic advising at a state university. She has degrees from Wheaton College (B.A.) and Northern Illinois University (M.S. Ed). Sonja is from New England, but, after ten years in Longmont, can't imagine living elsewhere. Sonja has served at her church as a greeter, mentor to single moms and Bible Study leader. She enjoys camping, hiking and any type of skiing with her husband and two daughters.
Mrs. Schaefer joined RMCA in 2014. She is a Colorado University grad. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and Education. Her Master’s Degree is in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Literacy. She has taught kindergarten, first, and second grade. She has been involved in Women’s and Small Group Ministry. Mrs. Schaefer was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado. She and her husband Tyler live in Longmont with their three children. She loves to read, attend sporting events, and scuba dive. She plays on a co-ed, indoor soccer league.
Mrs. Louwers began teaching at RMCA in 2018. She received a Bachelor's of Science at Michigan State University. Shortly after, she met her husband, Bob, and they moved to Colorado where they raised their 5 children. She homeschooled all of her children in Charlotte Mason for 14 years. Mrs. Louwers loves to garden, cook, hike, and spend time with her family and church community.
Ms. Depue joined RMCA in 2017. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Christian Studies and Elementary Education from Crown College in Minnesota. Previously she was a substitute teacher in northern California, taught kindergarten thru eighth grade at a country school in rural Nebraska, and was an instructional aide and tutor after moving to Colorado in 2008. Ms. Depue enjoys nature walks and camping as well as handwork and baking.
Mrs. Todd began teaching at RMCA with the 2nd grade class of 2018. She studied to be a music teacher in college, earning a Bachelor's of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of Denver. After a short time in this career, she married her husband and spent the next 13 years traveling the world with him as he served in the United States Marine Corps. They had six children and she home-schooled all of them, which took 22 years of her life! The last 15 of those she taught using Ambleside curriculum and the Charlotte Mason method. In 2018, the last of her children entered college and Mrs. Todd decided she was ready to teach some more kids! She loves to read, walk/hike/snowshoe, sew, bake, and of course…SING! She is the Lead Chanter at her church in Loveland and enjoys directing the Children’s Choir there as well.
Mrs. Caswell joined RMCA in 2018. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Elementary Education from MSU, and previously has been a guest teacher for Adams 12 Five-Star schools. Mrs. Caswell loves spending time with her husband and daughter camping, gardening, and reading. She and her family have attended Rocky Mountain Christian Church for over 20 years.
Mrs. Sandstrom received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical and Theological studies from Boyce College in Louisville, Kentucky. She comes from a classical teaching background and is passionate about working with children ages first through third grade. She enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, reading, traveling, camping in the mountains, and training her German shepherds.
Mrs. Statley has a Master’s of Education from Framingham State College and did her undergraduate work at Liberty University. She brings twelve years of teaching experience in the U.S. and internationally, in both public and private schools. Mrs. Statley returned to classroom teaching after serving on the staff of a large church.
Mrs. Byrd joined the RMCA faculty in 2018 to teach 4th grade. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in TESL Education and has taught preschool up to high school in the U.S. and in Africa. She fell in love with Charlotte Mason’s philosophy of education back in 2013. She had the opportunity to visit Ambleside, England, where she walked the gorgeous Lake District hills dreaming of wearing Victorian dresses and chatting with Charlotte over a cup of tea. Melissa is grateful for the opportunity to teach at RMCA and to have all of her children in a beautiful, engaging atmosphere. When she isn’t tackling a mountain of laundry at home, she enjoys hiking Colorado trails with her husband, Brandon, and their five children, or spinning wool for knitting projects.
Mrs. Tadewald began teaching third grade at RMCA in 2010. Previously she substituted, taught part-time, and taught full-time in various schools, including Longmont Christian, for many years. Mrs. Tadewald holds a Bachelors’ degree from Colorado State and a Post B.A. Elementary Education degree from University of Colorado in Boulder. Her family includes her husband, Tom, and two children (both RMCA alumni). She and her family attend First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont.
Mrs. Robinson started teaching preschool at RMCA in 2010. Before joining our Middle School staff, she taught 1st and 2nd grades. Mrs. Robinson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Baylor University and a Master's in Education from Regis University. Mrs. Robinson, who grew up in Alaska and has also lived in Texas and Washington, enjoys reading, traveling, hiking, and skiing.
Mr. Strickland originally hails from Alabama. He received his bachelor’s degree from Union University in Christian Thought and Tradition. He previously taught in Castle Rock for one year before coming to RMCA. Nothing pleases him more than a conversation about Saint Augustine or political philosophy over coffee.
Mrs. Booth started teaching at RMCA in 2018. She holds a Bachelor of Behavioral Science from Metropolitan State University of Denver, and a Professional Teaching License with endorsements in Secondary Social Studies, Elementary Education, and School Librarian. Prior to joining RMCA, she taught various classes for grades 4-12 at a homeschool enrichment program in Jefferson County. Mrs. Booth enjoys hiking with her husband, daughter and son, playing tennis, riding her bicycle, and reading.
Mrs. Wurth and her family have been at RMCA since 2008. Lori’s passion is helping people grow and develop, and she has a heart and a knack for understanding Middle School students. She teaches classes such as Business Communication, Worldviews, and Christian Leadership at Colorado Christian University. She has a Master's of Science in Management and Organization from the University of Colorado and studied business at CSU for her undergraduate work. She is on the leadership team of a praise dance ministry and attends Grace Church Sandstone with her husband and two kids.
Christy Glaze has been an RMCA parent for many years and joined our staff in 2016. Mrs. Glaze has a passion for helping students grow in their demonstration of Christ's love for the Spanish speakers in our community and throughout the world through learning some of their language and culture. She has a Master’s in Curriculum & Instruction with emphasis in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESL) from CU Denver. She also has a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Seattle Pacific University. Christy stays active with four sons at home, 2 of whom attend RMCA and 2 who graduated on to high school. Christy and her husband David and their family attend Christian Home Fellowship in Boulder
Mr. Gray began teaching at RMCA in 2011. Having studied music business at Azusa Pacific University, Mr. Gray brings his passion of music to RMCA as the elementary music, band, and choir director. In addition to directing the three bands, Mr. Gray also teaches private piano lessons, and even tunes pianos! Mr. Gray lives in Longmont with his wife and daughter. He enjoys traveling, taking photos, experiencing new things with friends and family, and playing games after home-cooked meals.
Miss Bayne joined the RMCA staff in 2015. Her degree in Art Education is from the University of Northern Colorado. Miss Bayne attends Calvary Bible Church in Boulder, where she volunteers with the high school student ministry and women's ministry. In her free time she enjoys hiking, reading, cooking/baking, playing ultimate or volleyball or having game nights with friends, and, of course, Miss Bayne loves to spend time drawing or painting in her studio.
Mrs. Schaffer began teaching PE at RMCA in 2018. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and she has seven years of coaching experience. She was born and raised in Colorado and after college she and her husband, Tyler, moved to Idaho to teach at a Christian school for 9 years. Currently, Mrs. Schaffer and her husband live in Frederick with their three children, Everett, Easton, and Bailey. In her spare time, Mrs. Schaffer loves to run, play sports, bake, and spend time with family and friends. She and her family attend church at Valley Community Church in Lafayette.
Mrs. Lind joined RMCA in 2004 as a Mom’s Day Out teacher, and in 2005 moved to the preschool program as teacher’s aide and lead teacher. She holds a degree in Applied Human Science from CSU and Early Childhood and Director qualifications from Front Range Community College. She has been a member of Rocky Mountain Christian Church since 1999, where she has been involved in leadership with MOPS and Sunday School. Mrs. Lind was born in the Chicago area and moved to Greeley in junior high. When she is not in the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Rick, and their two daughters.
Ms. Prike is a Lead Teacher in our preschool program. She began teaching at RMCA in 2008. She lives in Firestone with her two children. She was raised in Lyons, CO and graduated from Lyons High School. She has completed classes at Front Range Community College for Early Childhood Education. Her family attends church at Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette. Her hobbies include running, gardening, reading, listening to music, playing cards, and spending time with family.
Mrs. George started as a Lead Preschool Teacher in 2017. She has been a parent of RMCA students since 2015. She holds a degree in Religion from Belmont University and a Masters Degree in Counseling from Trevecca University. For the past two years, she has helped lead the preschool class at Discovery Christian Church, where she attends. Before that, she cared for young children in several settings, including after-school care programs and day-care settings. Tawny loves art, music, baking and being outdoors, hiking and camping, with her two children, Ansley and Norah, her husband Matt and their two dogs.
Mrs. Hamilton joined RMCA in 2008. She and her husband Robert moved to Colorado after they married, and have raised two grown children. After running her own business and working in retail sales she completed classes at Front Range Community College for Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Hamilton has taught Sunday school for many years and attends Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette. Her favorite free-time activities include spending time with her granddaughters and riding motorcycles in the mountains with her husband.
Mrs. Hudson joined the RMCA staff in 2018. In addition to homeschooling her children, Mrs. Hudson has worked for My Father’s World, Focus on the Family, Christian Bookseller’s Association, and as a Colorado state legislative aide. Now Dawn works in her favorite environment: first as a wife, mom, and a homeschooling teacher; then as a voice of support to homeschooling parents, and now as a preschool aide for RMCA.
Ms. Rushing joined the staff of RMCA in 2016. She was born and raised in Colorado and has been teaching children in both private and public school settings since 2002. Ms. Rushing attended University of Colorado Boulder, Colorado Mountain College and Front Range Community College where she earned her Associates in General Studies and her Directors Certification in Early Childhood Education. In her spare time, Ms. Rushing likes to spend time with her three daughters, hike, fish, camp, knit, bake pies, study rocks/fossils and travel.
Mrs. Ibsen returned to RMCA teaching staff in 2018 after teaching in the RMCA Mom’s day out program in 2006. She earned a BA Teaching Degree with a concentration in Early Childhood Education from Concordia University, Nebraska. She taught for ten years, primarily as a Preschool/Kindergarten Director and Teacher in parochial schools with one year in the Cherry Creek public school system. Mrs. Ibsen opened a child care center at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Boulder in 1993. She has taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and served as Lead Nursery Teacher at Risen Savior Lutheran Church. Over the years she has stayed home to raise and homeschool her own two daughters as well as many children she provided in home care for. During the years that her daughters attended RMCA, she volunteered as a mom and worked as a Catering Event Manager. In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing with her family.
Mrs. Hunt started as a Preschool Aide at RMCA in 2018. She and her husband, Josh, moved to Colorado after finding out they were expecting their second child in 2014. She and her husband live in Erie with their two sons and attend Calvary Bible Church. Mrs. Hunt has completed courses in Early Childhood Education at Moorpark College in CA and has over twenty years experience in Children's Ministry. Most recently she worked and directed the MOPS kids program at Calvary for three years. In her spare time she loves to knit, bake, hike and spend time with her family.
Mrs. Weber transitioned to her current position as Admissions Coordinator/Registrar in the summer of 2015. She began her time at RMCA as a fourth grade teacher in 2005. She taught third and fourth grades at RMCA for 10 years. Mrs. Weber grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to Estes Park, Colorado after graduating from Hanover College, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She taught third and fourth grades for six years in Estes Park before moving to Erie with her family. She and her husband, Derek, attend Rocky Mountain Christian Church. Both of their daughters attended RMCA.
Melissa Young grew up in Oklahoma and moved to Colorado in 1991. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor's degree in Personnel/Human Resource Management. Melissa married her high school sweetheart and they have a son, a daughter, and a domestic farm containing 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 1 guinea pig. Both children attended RMCA. Melissa worked at the school in various roles until she transitioned into her current role in Accounting in 2016.
Alison Sullivan grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from the University of Tulsa with a degree in Communication and a minor in Elementary Education. Before joining RMCA, she served overseas on college campuses. Mrs. Sullivan lives in Erie with her husband, Thomas. They enjoy going to the movies and cooking together, as well as hanging out with their friends. They attend Calvary Bible Church in Erie.
Jennifer Turner has a Master's Degree in reading and taught Kindergarten for 12 years before joining the office staff at RMCA. She lives in Longmont with her husband, Trey and her two children (both former RMCA students). She enjoys reading, playing the piano and walking her dog. She grew up in Wisconsin and lived in Texas before settling in Colorado. Jennifer and her family attend First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont.
Sarah Hadders moved to Erie, Colorado in 2005 with her husband, Jonathan. Mrs. Hadders and her family have been part of the RMCA family since 2009, and both of their children attend RMCA. Prior to joining RMCA staff, Sarah practiced occupational therapy at Longmont United Hospital. She enjoys hiking, quilting, watching her children practice judo and spending time with family. Mrs. Hadders and her family attend Westside Church of Christ.
